Hersheypark 2012 Attraction Looking More Like a Giga Coaster

A picture of the proposed layout for Hersheypark’s new roller coaster was released on the Theme Park Review Forum and it looks an awful lot like the new style Intamin Giga Coasters. The footprint for the lift hill and first drop supports are almost a direct match for the ones found on Intimidator 305. I would guess that the drop will turn slightly during and go into a large airtime hill, followed by a high G turn low to the ground. It then crosses back into the figure 8 for a small hill (ejector airtime!) before an upward helix into another hill. The rest of the layout appears to be some high speed turns similar to the last half of Intimidator. Can’t wait to see more!

Intamin Supports Show Up at Hersheypark

Baby blue supports are now on-site at Hersheypark. They appear to be the new style Intamin supports that were used on Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion. Earlier planning permission was sought for a ride “200-350 feet” high. Could we be looking at another giga-coaster on the east coast?

Drop Trims Removed from Intimidator 305

Coasterfusion is reporting that the trims have been removed from Intimidator 305′s first drop. It sounds like most of the major track alterations are complete so hopefully we’ll see some testing soon. Check out the pictures at Coasterfusion.

Kings Dominion Introduces Intimidator 305

Kings Dominion announced today the addition of the United States’ 2nd giga coaster. This ride will be 305 feet tall and travel more than 90 mph. Some fans have been disappointed that it isn’t exactly what their imaginations had expected, but at $25 million we can hardly complain in this economy. It should be a great ride and as some people have said, it looks to be a “Maverick on steroids.” If this is true, it will make for one truly awesome ride.
